Three MUST HAVES to put on your fashion radar in 2012
We’ve officially turned a new leaf and rung in the new year. 2012 will be an exciting year in fashion. The themes and hot trends for the next twelve months will celebrate colour and femininity of the 1960s.
In the spring, expect to see block colours, graphic prints, and abstract geometric patterns dominate the fashion scene, including womens dresses and tops. If you plan on playing with colours in your wardrobe, try wearing a lighter colour on top and a darker on the bottom. This should result in an overall slimming effect. For the still chilly days of spring, swing coats and capes are must haves that can keep you warm and in style. As the weather gets warmer, short geometrically cut shorts with high waists will let you show off your legs and get you in the mood for summer fun.
The must have accessory for the spring will be the Gladstone bag, better known as the doctor’s bag. Once a working man’s companion, it can now be found on the arms of a fashionista. The Gladstone bag’s trademarks are its small handles, sturdy rectangular base, boxy shape and magnetic-centre. Because of its origins a Gladstone bag is relatively large in size and is highly practical. During the day, it can serve as an all-purpose work bag and on the weekend, it can be the perfect travel companion.
For hair, think Brigitte Bardot bouffant. In recent years, stars like Adele have made this hairstyle popular again. As for makeup, thick eyeliner will continue to be fashionable as will false lashes. Also, replace your frosted and shimmery lipsticks of the last year with bright matte makeup.
So the three must haves for the new year? Think colourful and geometric patterned dresses and shorts, capes and a Gladstone bag.
